USE YOUR NOODLE!
Ramen noodles are a prepper favorite. Those little cubes of ultra-cheap carbohydrates are a mainstay in many preppers’ pantries! They are inexpensive and quick to prepare, and they add some easy-to-digest carbs to a meal for extra energy. But the just-add-water packets will get dull very quickly. Here are some ideas for pumping up your basic ramen noodles. Try these additions to cooked, unflavored ramen noodles, in whatever proportions you like.
1. Chives, canned baby corn (drained), soy sauce, Oriental seasoning packet
2. Marinara sauce, grated Parmesan cheese, beef seasoning packet
3. Condensed cream of chicken soup, canned mixed vegetables (drained), chicken seasoning packet
4. Prepared macaroni and cheese dinner, grated Parmesan cheese, vegetable seasoning packet
5. Diced pineapple (drained), diced canned ham, dried bell pepper, Oriental seasoning packet
6. 1 (15.5-ounce) can of green beans (drained), 1 (15.5-ounce) can of kidney beans (drained), (15.5-ounce) can of lima beans (drained), Italian salad dressing (serve cold or at room temperature)
7. Condensed tomato soup, Tabasco sauce, shredded cheese (optional)
8. Coca-cola, salted peanuts (chopped), thinly sliced beef jerky, beef seasoning packet
9. Creamy peanut butter (1 to 2 tablespoons per noodle pack), chives, Oriental seasoning packet
10. Canned chili, Tabasco sauce, Cheez Whiz, beef seasoning packet
11. Drained canned tuna, Italian salad dressing, vegetable seasoning packet
12. Salsa, sliced pepperette, pickle relish, yellow mustard
13. Lemon juice, garlic powder, Parmesan cheese, vegetable seasoning packet
14. Diced Spam, green peas, garlic powder, pork seasoning packet
15. Extra water, canned mixed vegetables, undrained canned kidney beans, undrained beef seasoning packet
Thermos noodles: Try this quick, low-fuel idea for preparing your noodles in the event of a blackout or limited fuel. Use 1 cup water for noodles, 2 cups water for soup.
Crunch up the package of noodles, then open one end and dump the noodles into a wide-mouth thermos. Sprinkle the seasoning packet on top. Add boiling or hot water and cap the thermos for 5 minutes—no longer, or they’ll be mush! Voilà—perfect noodles!
